Is this the biggest event of our lives?

usernames, and their nature?

One thing I have been thinking about lately is changing my online username.

I guess I try to keep the same one across websites. Well, not the exact same but usually a pretty neat variation. Once in a while I google the old usernames and see what comes up. Its fun, and usually full of discovery.

During one of these explorations of my innserlf, past I was somewhat surprised to find some other person using the same username. Is there some kind of connection between us? Two humans that have no knowledge of each other...no connection save we picked the same meaningless permutation of letters and numbers to call ourselves?

Choosing a new username can be difficult. Its the age old question, whats in a name? How do you describe yourself in a word or phrase? A r0ze by any other smell something something

Maybe the reason its so difficult (for me at least) is because it seems sort of backwards; the nature of an online username is the complete opposite of your real life name. (define nature?)

Examine the nature of your online user name. I'm sure there is a wiki on this, but not now. Do you ever use it? (There was a riddle something like "what can you give away yet always have?") Its just seems odd and for some reason I am happy I didnt have the task of naming myself.

So I sorta lost track with this post but....you can probably extend what I was going for. Some other notes:

- Is it possible to have a unique username spread across the web? This might be a fun experiment to try. Maybe a bot that just spreads some username....not a spam bot. I wonder how to describe this idea... Are there spam bot olympics and records? Which has the furthest reach? Anon?

- new dating site: hookingup usernames. Biggest problem: privacy policy...

-Do you ever google old usernames and see what comes up?

-How do you pick a username?

ashes are ashes

I have noticed in the past few days that Fox news and other media outlets have really enjoyed saying that the leaders of Arlington National Cemetery were, in the words of Pat, "forced out." This morning I heard on the local news that they were "fired" over the recent reports about possible "misidentified remains."

Well aside from the obvious question,* I just find it interesting that a month ago I was watching an interview (probably on Fox news - i'm a watchdog) with the leaders who were forced out. Or at least, one of them. It was his retirement interview.

I wish I could find the interview, just to see what the angle is there. It it just funny to me that he was retiring right before this was discovered (or made public.) Now fox news is just being pretty nasty.

Well its nothing too important. At least not to justify such a long break.

I have been playing a few new games. The second Scared Seasons is out and to be honest, I'm looking forward to playing the old one all night. The second one has a better attempt at a story. You still rush through the dialogue though, or forget about them when the next session comes.

The graphics are a lot better though, and I really like how they redesigned the maps, even if it takes longer to load (slower internet this summer.) The game mechanics haven't changed too much from SSC. They did a good job of cutting out solo grinding; its only fun and worth playing when you have a group...this means you rush through a lot of the game to keep up.

I'll probably post my bot in a few days. Just to see how well I can write one.
Its fun though and if you are bored give it a try...be friendly and meet people, that's really the only reason to do anything at all anyway. fishfishfish

new luda is hot

Well this is my current favorite from Ludacris new album "Battle of the Sexes."

The album is hot! Got one single out I have heard on the radio, "how low." I also might have heard a different one. Next might be "My Chick": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyaWvyxdeRQ

One thing I gotta say before the wiki link, its real hot in plenty of ways. The singles are pretty different then the entire album, which just showcases how much work Ludacris has been doing.

Here is the wiki page for the album.

The rapping is great, some of his best! Plus the feats. and the general storyline is just..yah rel hoT@!

Finite State Machines, IRL

Today was the first time I have seen a real practice use for finite state machines. These little guys are the building blocks of theoretical computers...but today we saw how the ROM inside the processor is bascially a physical implementation of a DFA. A series of bits are hardcoded into the ROM that represent the switches to be turned on, then the next state to jump to.

Web game competition

Well, it looks like the 2010 BB Game Dev competition is finally here! As in years past, it is sure to bring in a lot of new ideas, developers, and thinkers. I will not personally be working on anything for the contest, but I definitely plan on sampling all of the entries. I like to type up a list of things that come to mind as I play; this later helps me remember ideas for my own games and blog entries. *(I have been beta testing two games this past month. Hopefully I can use that to make some new posts!)

Anyway, I encourage everyone to at least check out some of the games. A thread has been started to discuss the progress each developer has made.
